Yes, we will provide you with a receipt for your donation. After completing your donation, you will receive an email confirmation that serves as your official receipt. If you don’t receive it or need a duplicate copy, please contact our support team at MBI@mwbinst.com.

Different assemblages are more sensitive to different forms of pollution. Fish assemblages are more tolerant to heavy metal pollutants than macroinvertebrate assemblages, but macroinvertebrate assemblages are less sensitive to habitat alterations than fish assemblages.

Yes, both of these options will be offered during the registration process.

Your donation will go directly to fund MBI’s science-based water quality research and policy development, and professional and community/citizen science trainings.

Pre and post sampling with macros at remediation sites will show recovery or detrimental impacts

  • Distinct species
  • Historical- look what’s been lost
  • Many fishermen know to catch fish in certain areas you’d need to know the larvae and nymphs in that eco region/ fly fishing is very popular (a lot of common names we have for these macros are from the naming of them from fisherman)
  • Museum's of biodiversity have stored specimens where people can see them and learn more about them
  • Fossils- have historical significance of showing how environmental changes have accumulated over decades

The number of different species will give indicators on water quality. Macroinvertebrates serve as bottom part of the food chain for fish, reptiles, amphibians, and more and the number of macroinvertebrates is directly related to the amount of food available for these predators

We have some evidence that Round Goby can cause the decline in numbers of certain native species that occupy similar habitat. Bighead and Silver Carp are also thought to have a detrimental effect on fish assemblages by consuming zooplankton, which very young fish need to survive.

Prevent litter pollution, prevent tree removal, or plant trees near stream banks to reduce land runoff and erosion, avoid excessive fertilizer and nutrients on farmland, participate in public hearings and stay current on environmental policies and issues, become educated to assess stream quality and help younger generations learn and care for water quality

Pre-approval is required and is based on the current ability of a trainee to perform the requisite sampling and laboratory methods and identify fish and/or macroinvertebrates to the required taxonomic level (species level for fish, lowest practicable level for macroinvertebrates, typically genus/species).

These groups decompose at the end of their life cycle, creating more organic material to be used by other organisms within the ecosystem.

Absolutely! We offer the option to set up a recurring monthly donation. This allows you to provide ongoing support to our organization and helps us plan for the future more effectively. You can choose the amount and frequency of your recurring donation during the donation process.

Most will be provided on the final day of your course.

Diverse assemblages indicate healthy ecosystems, and assemblages generally diversify as stream health recovers.
